I was tagged by :iconamyhooton: I have to write ten things about me :blush:. So here goes:

:bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange:

1. I was born in the Eastern Command Military Hospital in Calcutta, India, in 1977. My earliest memories are of rolling blue hills and lush tea gardens in Assam, where my father was posted for a few years after my birth.

2. My mum is my best friend. She is the most beautiful, most intelligent, and most understanding woman I’ve ever known. I never stopped missing her, ever since I left home at 21, missing her in a way that makes me want to run back to her, hold her tightly, put my head on her lap and pretend that I’ll hallucinating about growing up. It’s  “momsickness”, akin to homesickness, something that should have dissipated over the years, but didn’t.

3. I am socially awkward, incapable of making small talks and impatient with people that don’t seem to use their minds. Thankfully my friends and colleagues understand me, my “queen of faux pas” status accepted, and misunderstandings get cleared.

:bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange:

4. My oldest friend is someone I have known for the last 26 years : ) she lives in Virginia and just had a baby! :clap:

:bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue::bulletpurple::bulletorange::bulletred::bulletyellow::bulletgreen::bulletblue:[Bullet; Purple][Bullet; Orange]

5. I started writing for ‘The Statesman’, one of the oldest newspapers in India when I was sixteen.  Working for this newspaper was the only job I held until I finished college and moved to Pune to pursue an M.A. in sociology. I also published poems and freelanced for a few national women’s magazines. I believe some of those editors did not know how young I was or that might have been an issue! I was adept at artistic white lies to sell my writing :D

6. I have one sibling, a younger sister. She works as a human resource manager. She is very smart, level-headed and efficient. Our personalities are very different; and we have some difficulty connecting, in spite of our best efforts. I love her very much but I miss the simple delightful relationship of our childhood.

7. I am getting a PhD in women and gender studies from ASU. I live in Tempe. I like belonging to the academia in spite of its obvious flaws, the most disturbing of which is what I call “reflexive hypocrisy.” Before I came to the States as a graduate student I worked as a magazine writer, social worker and content developer in an E-learning company. And of course, I taught classes in the university and worked as a research associate, the same kind of things I do now.

8. Bombay (now renamed Mumbai), Pune, NYC and Chicago are my most favorite cities in the world [Earth]

9. I love animals. As I child I had rabbits, birds and the best dog in the world. I sneaked in stray kitties with my sister and set up homes for them under my grandpa’s huge bed. Ever since I started my PhD in the states, I am pauperized and my schedule is not suitable for keeping pets. But thankfully I have lived with roommates who have pets and I tend to spend a lot of time with them, sharing the carework : ) getting a dog is high on the list of my priorities when I get a job with a less hectic schedule.

10. Art keeps me sane. As do good food, nature, literature, movies and music.

The above might seem like a drab list. But if I were to reveal some of the more “interesting” aspects of my personality and life experiences, that would be shocking for most. I’d rather save the dark and dirty for my semi-autobiographical book : )

Hi! It's interesting to read this short biography. I will have trouble replying, I hate writing stuff like this. But I will try. You sound like you have Asperger's syndrome, because of the faux pas thingy... but then everyone does nowadays... It's almost as pop as ADD. Well I know the feeling... open mouth, insert foot. Or maybe, open mouth, remove foot, insert other foot. Note the slight differences in flavor and texture that make feet so interesting. The reason God gave us TWO feet is so that when we get one out of our mouth, the other one will jump into it. It's part of the Curse of Babble On. I know I am cursed because I am still babbling on. I like your deviant ID as it is the hat because you look so dreamy in it. Maybe it's the hat or the tilt of your head but you look like you're staring at something nobody else can see.

I wrote a book like that on my notebook computer then I hated the book so much that I threw the computer against the wall. Well it was a horrible book and that was all I really used the computer for. I find it impossible to write about myself honestly because I don't really know. The things most people would find 'the honest truth' are just the things that pertain to the conscious mind, the world of consensus reality. But most of my life is not lived in that world. So I feel like I'm lying if I stick to that. But then when I start going into subjective and subconscious it gets stranger and stranger and I wonder if I'm lying to myself. There's a book being published about now -- I read an article about it less than a month ago -- that was Carl Jung's exploration of his own subconscious. It turned really weird like my own and so was never published until now. Even after he died his relatives were like 'oh this must never be read by anyone'. First on my reading list. I'd read your book too, if you ever get around to publishing it.
